HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENTS

“If you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got” –  Albert Einstein

Design matters.   Traditionally designed spaces cannot be expected to meet current and future performance requirements for efficient, effective and collaborative patient care.

Changes in technology are changing where and how staff works – enabling staff to work anywhere and everywhere.  Adherence to Lean principles, efficient staff workflow processes, and the removal of wasteful processes is paramount in the creation of safe, effective and efficient care environments. Work spaces must support different technologies, work styles & activities that are necessary for a team-based approach to care processes, provoking a paradigm shift toward innovation in the planning and design of space.

Leveraging planning strategies by utilizing the 8 Healthcare Flows – Staff, Patients, Families/Patient Advocates, Information, Medications, Supplies, Equipment, Output – in tandem with 3P methodology ensures a comprehensively designed and healing human-centered experience for all users.

The planning process provides the opportunity for transformational change, while the design process incorporates and embeds the innovative characteristics necessary to support and sustain future care delivery models.

Incorporating Lean and leveraging The 8 Healthcare Flows into the early stages of the planning process is pivotal to re-envisioning spaces that are healing, inspirational, and efficient.  The successful fusion and integration of all of these components is the key to the planning and design of future state healthcare environments.
